This Privacy Policy explains how Jose Mariano Macri ("Rift Companion", "we", "us", or "our") handles information when you use the Rift Companion website, downloads, support channels, and macOS app.

1. Summary

Rift Companion is a no-account, no-payment macOS app. The app processes League-related information locally on your Mac to show companion overlays and app views. It stores lightweight settings locally. To show solo-queue ranks during champion select and loading, the app sends Riot IDs (game name and tag line) and region — yours and those of the other players in your game — to op.gg. It does not send your local LCU credentials or personal gameplay history to op.gg or to us.

The app also fetches a small availability flag from riftcompanion.com once each time it starts, so we can disable the app remotely if we ever need to (for example, to comply with a takedown request). This request sends no personal data; it only retrieves a status file. We count these requests in aggregate to understand how often the app is launched.

From version 1.1, the app sends us a minimal anonymous usage ping at launch and roughly every 5 minutes while it runs: a random per-install identifier (generated on your Mac and tied to nothing else), the app version, and the macOS version. It never includes your Riot ID, summoner name, account information, or any game data. We use it only for aggregate usage counts (for example, how many people use the app). You can turn it off anytime in Settings → Advanced → Privacy.

The website uses self-hosted fonts and does not load fonts from Google's CDN. Our website host may process standard request logs.

2. Scope

This policy covers:

  • The Rift Companion website at riftcompanion.com.
  • Download pages and files we provide.
  • The Rift Companion macOS app.
  • Emails and support or security messages you send us.

This policy does not cover Riot Games, op.gg, Apple, website hosts, or other third parties. Their own policies apply to their services.

3. Information the app processes locally

The app may process the following on your Mac:

  • League client status, champion select state, selected champion, team composition, role, and current rune page.
  • Live game information from the local Live Client Data API: champions, items, gold spent, game timer, levels, positions, and scoreboard data.
  • Local League settings needed to match display preferences, such as cooldown number format.
  • App settings stored in macOS UserDefaults: overlay visibility, panel positions, and display preferences.
  • Temporary local LCU connection details from the running League client process, such as local port and local auth token.

The app does not store LCU authentication tokens after use and does not send them to us.

4. Information the app may send to third parties

The app may make network requests for:

  • Static League data from Riot Data Dragon or similar static sources.
  • Meta information from op.gg, such as popular runes, builds, and matchup guidance.
  • Solo-queue ranks from op.gg: to show ranks during champion select and loading, the app sends Riot IDs (game name and tag line) and region — yours and those of the other players in your game — to op.gg.
  • A small availability flag from riftcompanion.com, retrieved once at launch, that lets us disable the app remotely if required. This request sends no personal data; it only retrieves a status file. We count these requests in aggregate.
  • An anonymous usage ping to riftcompanion.com (version 1.1 and later), at launch and roughly every 5 minutes while the app runs: a random per-install identifier, app version, and macOS version. No Riot ID, summoner name, account information, or game data. Opt out anytime in Settings → Advanced → Privacy.

The app does not send your local LCU credentials or personal match history to op.gg. Third-party servers receiving a request may process ordinary technical information such as your IP address, device metadata, request time, and requested URL.

5. Website, downloads, and support

When you visit the website or download the app, our host or CDN may process request logs including IP address, browser, operating system, referring page, requested files, and timestamps.

The website uses self-hosted fonts. The website loads Google Analytics (gtag.js) from Google to measure aggregate website traffic, which may set analytics cookies. This applies to the website only; the app's only telemetry is the anonymous usage ping described in sections 1 and 4.

If you email us or send support or security requests, we process the contact information and message content you provide to respond and keep records.

6. Information we do not currently collect

Rift Companion does not intentionally collect: account registrations, passwords, payment data, advertising identifiers, precise location, cross-site tracking cookies, crash reports from the app, or user-uploaded content. The only app telemetry is the anonymous usage ping described in sections 1 and 4. If we add anything beyond that, we will update this policy first.

7. How we use information

We use information to provide and improve the app, website, and support; display local features and overlays; troubleshoot bugs and security reports; maintain website security; and comply with legal obligations.

8. Sharing

We may share information with website, CDN, download, and email providers that help us operate the service; security or legal advisors when needed; and authorities if required by law, to protect rights and safety, or to enforce our terms.

We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

9. Retention

Local app settings remain on your Mac until you reset or uninstall them. Website and download logs are retained according to our host's settings. Support and legal messages are retained as long as needed to respond and protect our rights.

10. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures for the size and nature of this service. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. The app limits data exposure by running without an account, limiting telemetry to one anonymous usage ping, storing lightweight settings locally, and not persisting LCU credentials.

Security reports: security@riftcompanion.com

11. Your choices

You can stop all app processing by quitting or uninstalling the app. You can turn off the anonymous usage ping in Settings → Advanced → Privacy. You can reset local settings using macOS tools or any reset controls in the app. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or portability. Contact privacy@riftcompanion.com to make a request.

12. Children

The service is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child provided information to us, contact privacy@riftcompanion.com.

13. International users

We may process information in the United States or other countries where we or our service providers operate. Those countries may have different data protection laws than your country.

14. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy with a new effective date. If changes are material, we will take reasonable steps to notify users.
